COnnecting PalmPilot to a Internet using standard modems used by desktop PCs

Hi, Is it possible to use the standard 28.8kbsp/56kbps modems (which we usually use with desktop PCs) with PalmPilot (say m505) and connect to ISP or dial-in server? If NO, why? If yes, how? what cables and accessories I would need? thx -- For information on using the Palm Developer
