The problem is that the desktop is polling. Palm devices don't poll
(discover) until they're read

The "Waiting for Sender" progress dialog is quite annoying when a Palm
device is brought within range of a laptop that constantly tries to discover
other IrDA devices in its vicinity. I've seen this with both Windows and Mac
laptops. It makes it quite difficult to actually use a Palm device in
mee
