I found an undocumented (and presumably unsupported) system trap called
HwrLCDSleep(Boolean, Boolean)
which seems to work on Visor and PalmVx models I have here. It appears to
switch off the screen but not progress to sleep mode. Eventually, it will go
to sleep

computation will use enough power that keeping the screen on won't have that

conserve power but effectively stay in running mode?
