Thanks for you detailed response. I found an undocumented (and presumably unsupported) system trap called HwrLCDSleep(Boolean, Boolean) which seems to work on Visor and PalmVx models I have here. It appears to switch off the screen but not progress to sleep mode. Eventually, it will go to sleep

Say my app was about to perform a very long computational excercise (like calculate pi to the nth decimal place) (this isn't my application but it demonstrates the issues). Would it be possible to switch the screen off to conserve power but effectively stay in running mode? TIA, - John -- F
