Hey Vishwa, I haven't done this before, but what method is best/easiest will probably depend on what type of data you have stored in your .vtk file. If it's image data, then you might be able to write a simple VTK program to read in each of the vtk files and write out a more standard image

Since the selection stuff is somewhat new I'm not sure how it worked in 3.6.1. In the latest version in the selection inspector you can highlight cells/points and use delete, delete all, and/or new value to the list of selected objects. You can also play around with the selections in the
