I'm trying to follow your instructions, but had some trouble with it. By
fiddling around I got the cell which contains my point of interest (by
location, the point is not a node) to be highlighted. I'm wondering if
there's a way for me to get the Cell ID of the highlighted cell? I'm

setting I can change such that it only gives the cell that contains my point
instead of 15 of them...

I haven't done this before, but what method is best/easiest will probably
depend on what type of data you have stored in your .vtk file.
If it's image data, then you might be able to write a simple VTK program to
read in each of the vtk files and write out a more standard image
