I have just tested the exactly same actions with 3.12RC2. It behaves exactly in
the same way as 3.14RC2, i.e. crash after the plane is moved towards the
observer.
The difference between 3.12RC2 and 3.12.0 (release) was that 3.12.0 crashed
immediately when I attempted to load the file...
