In my haste I deleted the problem file, unfortunately. I tried replicating
it but haven't been able to so far.
I actually think the problem was that the problem timesteps were earlier in
time but later in the sequence, so not monotonically increasing.

That sounds weird. I don't recall hearing that before.
How irregular were the time steps? Were they not monotonically increasing? I
can imagine that might foul up ParaView.
Any chance you could send a sample?

When I open the EM grid, I can see that without any problems, but I cannot
see the field lines
