I try to write a VTK compressed file (uncompressed works fine), but I
have the following error when I open it in Paraview:

You're right, I didn't change the offset for the compressed files. I
wrote now the offsets a posteriori with fgetpos/fsetpos and it is OK.

I'm a big fan of Paraview, but I am lacking the feature to visualize
arbitrary order elements (more than 2). After some searches, I did not
find any suitable solution (I currently split the elements into my
code). Is anyone aware on a plugin doing that, or should I start writing
one?

splitting the elements. It is available here:
