i have a lot of difficulties in the same way if i try to record in anything
over 16 bit. 24 bit or 32 bit just don't work certainly in sf 6

You might have different results with different components doing live

when recording a bbc radio stream i cannot use 24 or 32 bit as the stream
repeats and drops out at anything over 16 bit. do i need to find a more up to
date driver for the audigy 2 card?

I think you need to ask yourself why you're bothering to go over 16-bit.
After that, see if 32-bit is available for any other format such as
line-in.
