Hep good suggestion, I use a DAC all the time though it didn't cost me $20 
<smile>, mine is an Audiphile unit from Rotel with very nice specs.

If you use something like an iPhone, iPad, Ipod Touch or another smart phone 
and you like your music then a DAC compatible with your device would be a very 
worth while investment given the excellent gains in audio quality you'll 
experience, I bought a DAC for my iPhone a little while back for $60 
Australian, there are a whole range of DAC devices to cater for just about 
every audio need on the planet, for a good range have a look at
