No no, you don't have to have a computer where you want the music,
that's the whole point, Airport Express is a box on its own but if you
don't want one you can use Airfoil Speakers on a computer, iphone etc
instead.

think that might be the advantage of an fm transmitter. Let's say i have a
radio in my bathroom. With an fm transmitter i can still listen to the
audiobook I was reading on my computer while I get ready for work.

Let me see if I have it correct then:
You should be able to connect this device to the network socket of your
computer, lay network cables and then connect the digital output to either a
digital input of an audio system or to a separate digital to audio converter
on your system?
