Hi,

Does anyone know of any other radio stations that have audio books except
this one and one Word, in the UK?

Thanks,

Subject: [LITS] audiobook radio news

If anybody is interested it this go to
www.audiobookradio.net
This is an announcement I just got and I hope it is of interest to all.
it is GMT so eight o'clock is 3 a.m. estern 2 a.m. central, 1 a.m.
mountain and midnight here in the pacific time zone. I have nothing
invested in this station but my enjoyment. They were changing it every
monday morning and I hope they still are. The anouncement follows. Kurt

Dear Kurt Yount,

For the past few months, Audio Book Radio has been working closely with
web accessibility specialists NOMENSA, here in the UK, in order to
provide the best
possible user-friendly service and access for our worldwide audience,
particularly for blind and partially sighted people. We were certainly
hoping to
have the changes in place by now but these things do take time and we are
determined to get it right. The upgrade does not come cheap - around 13k
- but
our fund raising plans are going well and we are discovering more and
more organisations that not only recognise the potential of our station,
but also
the public service and entertainment we are already providing and aiming
to improve upon. Special mention should be given to the RNIB and the
British Computer
Association of the Blind. Both have been generous in their praise of what
we are trying to do and, once the upgrades are in place, both
organisations are
perfectly happy to introduce their membership to our station. As the site
stands at the moment, that is simply not possible so it is vital we find
the
funding for the work to be carried out. That is also why we have added a
donation button to the ABR website…every little bit of help really does
make a
difference.

The upgrades will include everything from podcasts to a full-download
facility for the entire schedule, so you can take ABR wherever you
travel.

There will also be a writer’s forum and we are looking into the idea of
including a separate educational section for people who are learning
English as
a second language. We do receive enquiries from all over the world about
this and we are very aware how the station can help in this regard.

All of the above are very realistic and exciting developments for ABR but
they do take a lot of planning and patience. We are getting there!

THE FUTURE…A NEW STUDIO AND PRODUCTION HOUSE

We receive a lot of great scripts from new writers and the production of
such work is something we are looking to develop in the near future.

Plans are in place for our own studios here in the UK and we are
currently looking for a suitable base. This will enable us to liaise with
many more creative
individuals and writing organisations, which will in turn, allow us to
produce many more new recordings for our audience to enjoy. Along with
the customary
single-reader audio titles, there will be many more original radio plays
appearing on the station.

AUDIO BOOK DOWNLOAD TITLES

We are closing –out our ‘In Association’ deal with Simply Audio Books
over the next few weeks and joining forces with Spoken Network.

Their catalogue of titles is vast and includes every major publisher from
BBC Worldwide to Harper Collins. This will mean that there will be more
than 7,000
titles to choose from for download very soon on ABR.

Every classic series you can think of right through to the very best in
contemporary titles.

Any listener that makes a donation towards the running costs of Audio
Book Radio via PayPal on the website will be entitled to a 10% discount
on any audio
book download title from Spoken Network once the links are in place.

Simply email us after making a donation to join our ABR Discount Club.

Apologies for any inconvenience as we look to improve the station, but it
will all be worth the wait.

As ever, thanks for listening and thanks again for your support!

All @ ABR.
