How about the M-Audio Delta Audiophile 24/96? They're probably pretty cheap now with the release of the 24/192. I think I payed $129 for it three years ago, and have recently seen it for about $79 or so. May be even less now. Just a very basic I/O: two sets of RCA for input and output, as well as a breakout cable for midi and sp/dif. I have one, and it's a very clean card. Recording at 24-bit, I can get a SNR of about -90 DB or so. You'll probably not want to use this as your main sound card, as it's a waste of such good hardware to run speech through it, but definitely very nice for general audio playback and recording stuff.
