I mentioned the Sangean DDR66 to the list about a week ago, The DDR66 is the
second from the top in Sangean’s Tabletop radio range and has been with us
since April of this year.

The product is sold outside the United states and boasts an acoustically tuned
wooden cabinet bursting with features and functionality and yet compact enough
to grace your coffee table or even a bedside table if you have the space.

I was impressed with the Sangean DDr63 radio which looks similar but I wasn’t
prepared for the shock I received when I saw the DDR66.

Whilst I’m told the DDR66 contains the same high resolution display as found on
the DDR63 I wasn’t prepared for what met my fingers, buttons all round the
display on the DDR66 whereas only a touch screen is to be found on the front of
the DDR63 so we’ve come full circle and congratulations to Sangean for deciding
to put buttons on the front panel.

I have nothing against touch screens and I’ve long since resigned myself to the
obvious fact that touch screens in one form or another are here to stay and
we’re just going to have to live with that fact and find our way around those
appliances that have touch screens in different ways if at all possible so
seeing them old fashioned buttons again is refreshing.

The DDR66 also has a very nice large remote control with well laid out buttons
of decent size.

The sound from the DDR66 is as good - if not slightly better - than that heard
on the DDR63 and both radios have acoustically separated speakers - if you take
the radio apart you will see that each speaker has its own cabinet inside the
radio thus sealing and shielding it from the opposite unit -.

With the DDR66 the front metal grills for each speaker can be removed and again
congratulations to Sangean for incorporating such a feature as it means the
grills can be cleaned.

I get the impression the DDR66 would look most pleasing to the eye with its
brushed aluminium finish on the front with the screen placed in the middle of
the control panel along with the glossy lacquered wooden cabinet that houses
many features including slot loading multi format CD player, DAB/DAB+ and FM
radio, Internet Radio with full DLNA compatibility and Network music player,
Playback and recording to USB Memory stick or SD card, Bluetooth streaming,
Undok App compatibility and much more besides.

These radios don’t come cheap however at around $700 Australian dollars but
that said you get what you pay for with this model most certainly.
