Hi Jerry,
For everybody's information
a bunch of Marantz portables, such as the 220 etc. did offer
15/16ips along with 1 7/8ips. They were however only two track machines.
You can still occasionally find these machines on Ebay.

Peter! To my knowledge, and I just checked, Tascam does not currently
market a cassette Recorder or Player that operates at 15/16 Inches Per

When I started talking about the Porta Studio on here I was particularly
referring to one model that had 3 speeds including slow sped as in Talking
book speed. Am I correct in saying Tascam no longer makes a model like this?

I want to be able to record my 4 track talking
What i do is, since I have the use of a four track recorder of the multitrack
variety, I record with sound forge tracks 1 and 3 off the recorder, 1
completely panned to the left and 3 completely panned to the right. I record
all this at 1 and 7/8 speed off the recorder and at a sampling rate of
Peter! I haven't recorded a talking book from cassette to my computer
in quite a while so I don't remember the exact settings I used. With Sound

record a talking book cassette played in an ordinary stereo cassette playe
Porta Studios are / were used by aspiring musicians and garage bands to
make multi-track audio recordings in their home or garage rather than paying
some professional studio. These devices are available as cassette or
digital recorders for as little as $100.00. The trade name "Porta Studio"
If you can get the model number for this one a lot of us would probably
like to look for it on Ebay.

Hi Jerry. I guess with the pitch shift in Soundforge, you can work wonders
with old talkingbook tapes.

Yes, I use sound Forge, and I guess I will use it to clean up the sound.
would it be possible to play a tape at fast speed, then use re-sample or
some other tool to bring the speed down without effecting the sound
quality. Thus potentially saving time..

Peter! What software are you using to do the recording? I use Sound
Forge and with it any tape player will do. Once the tape is recorded I can
manipulate it with the Sound Forge tools: separate the tracks, slow it down
etc.
