Thanks for doing that, I knew there had to be an actual bug in there
*somewhere*.

Thanks Lucas but your response suggests to me that you may have misinterpreted
or misread my post. That's OK this is messy stuff
I'm not having a problem creating the 16 I/0 ports with that first command
string with Linux/Alsamidi, just an issue with double parsing of the syntax I
was using

which was very much desired behaviour by a lot of people: if you edit
your patch on the right-of-main screen and save, what
I my experience, the problem seems to occur if multiple screens are not
aligned horizontally.
If i arrange my 2 external monitors to extend the right side of my screen
to the right, i seem to have no trouble.
If i arrange them to have a screen extending the top of my laptop screen,
and another
From what I can tell, if the window placement is beyond the virtual screen
size, it gets clipped back to the main screen, This is done in the first
process in pdtk_canvas.tcl.

I've managed to get unxpected behavior on linux with XFCE desktop. When
I place the second monitor to teh left or right of the main one things work OK,
but if I place it either below or above, make a subpatch on the external
monitor, close it, it pops up on the main monitor instead. I'm not
sure

where did you get that syntax from?
and what is wrong with
$ pd -alsamidi -mididev
Ok, dont send it to a bug tracker yet.
Do you have gear that counts 32 (5 pin DIN connector) for 16 MIDI-in /16
MIDI-out?
I mean you can plug 32 midi cables in it?
Or you have 1 soundcard with 2 midi plugs (the normal in / out)?
To avoid confusion keep in mind that 1 midi plug has 16 channels
24Volt even, if it has such a socket?

then , you have to dim the 24V, not the 220V!
I just asked the producer about the amper it can have on such a length.

Ah, then you need to watch that video.
