Dear all,

We are happy to announce several***Doctoral and Postdoctoral Research Fellowships *at the new*RITMO Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies in Rhythm, Time and Motion<http://www.hf.uio.no/ritmo/english/>*at the *University of Oslo*:

*Doctoral Research Fellowships in Artificial Intelligence on Musical/Human/Robotic Rhythm (1-2 positions) <https://www.jobbnorge.no/ledige-stillinger/stilling/144121/doctoral-research-fellowships-in-artificial-intelligence-on-musical-human-robotic-rhythm>_ _*The PhD fellow(s) will carry out research on artificial intelligence methods to be used in (1) the analysis of human/musical rhythm and/or (2) synthesis of rhythms in robotic systems. The project(s) may therefore range from focusing more on theoretical development and computer-based testing, to focusing more on developing machine systems (simulation and robots) that can interact rhythmically with each other and with humans*__*

*Doctoral Research Fellowship in Rhythm and Musical Form <https://www.jobbnorge.no/ledige-stillinger/stilling/144227/doctoral-research-fellowship-in-rhythm-and-musical-form>_ _*The PhD fellow will carry out research into the ways in which rhythm can work as a means of representing processes that stretch far beyond the human ‘now’ in large-scale orchestral works (thirty minutes or more). The aim is to study the constant structuring and restructuring that takes place in the mind of the perceiver, encompassing moments of perception (in the ‘now’), projection (of future events) and retention (of past events) in the mental mapping of large-scale musical patterns.*__*

*Doctoral Research Fellowship in Musical Microrhythm in Jazz <https://www.jobbnorge.no/ledige-stillinger/stilling/144058/doctoral-research-fellowship-in-musical-microrhythm-in-jazz>_ _*The PhD fellow will conduct research into musical microrhythm, with a particular focus on the interaction of sound-related and temporal features of sound at the micro level of music performance in jazz and jazz-related musical styles. Qualitative interviews will be combined with music analysis (auditory, transcription-based and/or using computers), as well as perspectives from music cognition/psychology*_._**__*

*Doctoral Research Fellowship in Rhythm in Sample-based Music <https://www.jobbnorge.no/ledige-stillinger/stilling/144061/doctoral-research-fellowship-in-rhythm-in-sample-based-music>_ _*The PhD fellow will conduct research into rhythm in hip-hop music, with a focus on sampling and the ways in which sound manipulation and editing operations affect our experience of rhythm and groove. Qualitative interviews will be combined with music analysis (auditory, transcription-based and/or using computers), as well as perspectives from music cognition/psychology.*__*

*Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Machine Learning on Time Series Data <https://www.jobbnorge.no/ledige-stillinger/stilling/144122/post-doctoral-research-fellowship-in-machine-learning-on-time-series-data>_ _*The postdoctoral fellow will carry out research on novel machine learning methods for the analysis of time series data relevant for RITMO. This includes a large range of different data types, including audio/video recordings, data from motion and eye tracking systems, physiological sensors, and brain imaging.*__*

*Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Music Information Retrieval <https://www.jobbnorge.no/ledige-stillinger/stilling/144460/post-doctoral-research-fellowship-in-music-information-retrieval>_ _*The postdoctoral fellow will carry out research in music information retrieval on audio recordings, with a particular focus on temporal/rhythmic structures of large-scale musical works. It will also be relevant to combine audio-based analyses with musical score analysis and multimodal analysis of human time series data.*__*

*Postdoctoral Research Fellowships in Neuroimaging (1-2 positions) <https://www.jobbnorge.no/ledige-stillinger/stilling/144013/post-doctoral-research-fellowships-in-neuroimaging-1-2-positions>_ _*The postdoctoral fellow(s) will carry out research on the neural mechanisms and systems that support and enable rhythm perception and production in the human brain. Methodologically, the appointed candidate(s) will be involved in subprojects using scalp electroencephalography (EEG) and/or invasive electrocorticography (ECoG), or fMRI concurrent with cognitive experiments.*__*

RITMO is a new Centre of Excellence funded by the Research Council of Norway. All RITMO researchers will be co-located and work in a unique interdisciplinary constellation, with world-leading competence in musicology, psychology and informatics.
