Hi all,
I stumbled across this link the other day looking for something
interesting to post on my Facebook page, and was just struck by some of
the images. There are a few that really stood out to me and I was
hoping someone might be able to tell me how to go about approximating
the effect:
Yikes! Time to bring in the brass monkey.
Supposed to get down to around 10 here in Kentucky for the next couple
of nights, with winds around 20-30mph and gusts up to 45. That's plenty
cold for me. Not sure what that translates to in wind chill, but I'm
pretty sure it's nowhere -20 -- wh
Wow and burrr! I can 'see' the dry cold of that snow. I grew up in the state
just south of you. Iowa isn't, however, far enough south to enjoy much of a
climate difference.

The beauty of these is in the special moments that have been captured. If
you're talking about the rendering, It's a matter of emphasizing midrange and
shadow through exposure a bit on the minus side and consequent deep skin tones
and shadows.

Thanks, Paul.
I agree that the true beauty is in the moments captured, but I really
love the rendering as well. Maybe -1/2 step on exposure compensation to
start with?

Perhaps. Although it can be done in rendering a
My folks had a german shepherd and so did one of my mom's co-workers.
The co-worker's shepherd liked water. She found it one day sitting in
the dishwater in the kitchen sink. This was bad enough, but it was
followed up by her drawing a bath later in the week. She found the

Interesting, it has me asking questions about the weathered / broken
sign and the simple church.

Thanks again, Paul. I have started shooting in RAW, but just haven't
had much to shoot of late. Also, I really need to get more memory for
my computer before I can do much work with RAW files. I only have 1 GB
at the moment, so the files tend to be a pretty big drain on my
resources. I'm
Me too frank, unless I feed the kids on bread and water for the next six
months...
I would love to make a "reappearance" though! Maybe I'll make it a priority
and my motivation to get some big jobs happening between now and then. It
sure was fun last time, bloody cold though!

Ok, so finally, I have some time to breathe! I have just returned from a
month of travels, with three separate interstate trips (a week in
Wollongong, a week in Sydney and another week in Perth). These trips
combined resulted in me completing a total of 35 portrait sittings, 7 full
