My K-3 III was delivered today after being repaired by Precision. It took just
over a month from my sending it in, they had to wait a couple of weeks for a
replacement top plate. One might think that if service were their goal, they'd
keep a better stock of spare parts on hand. sigh.

Yes, they extend out to completely cover/protect the contacts. They
also have a rubber O-ring that help with some friction to keep the cap
from turning and keeps any dust from getting to be back of the lens.

I've found there to be a tremendous range in both quality and price of K-mount
back caps for lenses. I have not found there to be consistent correlation
between quality and price though. Some of them will tighten down nicely and
stay attached, others will stay loose and just fall off.

I shoot DNG exclusively (though I usually run the files through DNG
Converter when downloading because I can have it do file renaming at
the same time and it gets me to the latest spec DNG) for 3 reasons, in
increasing order of importance:
1 - Files are smaller than PEF
2 - The open format of
