I got mine on Thursday. I am going to go get some shots and test it
out today and in the morning. I'll post my impressions as well.

Thank you for those specific stats. That seems pretty much consistent
with what I have found. Whatever the speed of the CF card (80x), an
SD card (133x) is about half the speed when used with an adapter in
the *ist D. It isn't just the *ist D because my 20D (which I will

I understand that the *ist D is pretty slow but I was surprised at
how much the adapter decreased the performance beyond that point.
Thanks to all for the responses.

It has only happened once to me but I have no idea why it would
happen. Nothing was wrong with my mail server. Very strange.

I am now looking for a Pentax A 1.4X-S teleconverter. I would be
possibly interested in a Pentax F 1.7X AF teleconverter although I
would prefer the former. Any leads? Thanks.

I was looking through the list of telephoto primes that Pentax has
made and I made a list of four I would be interested in. I am talking
to someone right now regarding a possible purchase of an FA* 300/4.5
but I am curious as to whether the A* 300/4 is available anywhere.
Secondarily, I am also int
Sonora is a nice little town but a very different one than many.
Because it is the county seat, it has a lot of stuff that most small
towns do not have. The newspaper is an strange one though. There are
funny politics in Sonora. If you ever come up this direction let me
know.

It all depends on where you live. In bigger cities no one would care
at all but in a small town like Sonora, CA things are a bit different.
We had a fire hydrant burst sometime last year or the year before and
it made front page news. Things are very "different" in small towns.

Thanks for the comments. I think I will go with the 18-55 kit lens for
now and see how she likes it.

I have a friend who is using a Canon S2 IS camera and really wants an
SLR. I think she would be very happy with an *ist DL especially
because of the new rebate. What would your recommendations be for an
inexpensive lens kit that gave pretty good results and flexibility? I

It appears to be a very, very nice lens. Thanks for the pics. They are
very good and very helpful.

I hear what you are saying. I have been using either SMC Pentax
filters or B+W MRC filters. I prefer to protect the front element of
the lens with something. One of my 67mm filters has a big scratch on
it from some incident. I would hate for that to be the front element.

Ouch! Thanks for the link anyway. I am thinking that the DA 50-135mm

fun taking pictures with it like I did with my Pentax equipment. The

I am looking at purchasing the SMCP-DA 12-24mm f/4.0 lens. Are any of you
using this lens? Any comments on its performance. I already own the
SMCP-DA 16-45mm f/4.0 lens and SMCP-FA 24-90mm f/3.5-4.5 lens. Have any of
you done any comparisons on these two or even all three lenses? I haven't
