Just got a shiny new *istDS, and have a question. My amateur studio
setup has been based on cordless flash sync - ie: When the camera flash
goes off, the other flashes trigger automagically - based on the light
increase.
My problem is that the *istDS does a pre-flash to get the right
expos
Hmm.. I mean Slave, rather than Sync.
I want to use my AF-500FTZ as a slave to the *istDS, the pre-flash on
the camera causes problems (triggers the AF-500FTZ) before the actual
photo is taken.

After some more researching, I think I can restate my problem more clearly.
I want to use my AF-500FTZ off-camera in slave mode. As a consequence,
I need to be able to disable the P-TTL or at least split the operation
into a pre-flash, a delay and then the main flash.

Thanks, so there at least two options.. Use a TTL-only capable flash
(on camera, works fine), or use a F/FA lense with the aperture ring
turned off).
Fortunately, a 28 mm lens is equivalent to a 42 mm lens on the *istDS,
so my smallest F/FA lens will be suitable for studio work - which will
