I saw one of these (or something very similiar) on the street recently. What
I saw was certainly large enough to be more than 35mm format, and looked a
lot more impressive than the picture suggests. If nothing else the
owner/carrier looked the part - a bit like one of those French extreme

You don't specify an SLR - so what about a rangefinder such as the
Voigtlander Bessa R. Especially if acquiring something secondhand requires a

I was in Frankfurt recently and visited Foto-Brell. They have a screwmount
Pentax 85mm designed for use with UV light.

Somebody once told me (I read?) that a useful rule
of thumb to avoid camera-shake was to use a shutter speed greater than the focal
length. My Digital Ixus has a focal length range of 5.4mm-10.8mm and I can get
