Last Monday after aikido a couple of the other students were chatting, trying to figure out where they knew each other from. One mentioned that he taught at UCSC. I asked him what he taught, and it was documentary photography. Later, he and I were chatting about photography, and when he found out that I shot Pentax, he was rather curious, because he wants something besides Canikon to recommend to students.

The more I told him about Pentax gear, the more excited he became, and he nearly fell in love at first sight with the DA40. I know that Pentax was giving good discounts to photography students, but they could do well to contact college photography instructors directly.

Last night, when I got to Friday Night Blues one of the other dancers was there promoting the blues dancing room at his event next weekend http://balboabattle.com/ and asked me to DJ. I said I don't DJ, I do photography. It turns out that he has Pentax gear too. He's also offered to trade me admission to the weekend for photographing it.

I got a great ego stroke last night. One of the other dancers came up to me and said that she used to do photography and that my photos of dancing and people inspired her to buy a DSLR yesterday.

One of the other dancers was shooting with his D90 last night. I was dancing with someone, saw Scott aiming his camera at us and asked her if she wanted to do something special for him. She said sure, but had no idea. So I did a move that's I accidentally came up with while dipping someone a few years back which ends up with us both facing him and her pretty much upside down: http://red4est.com/thurials/koshi/koshi.html

Everybody got a laugh out of it and he complained that he hadn't had time to get the shot focused, that I should hold her like that for longer. So, about a minute later, I did. fortunately its a move that only looks like I'm using strength to hold her up.

A short while later, they turned down the lights and his exposure went from ISO 6400 f/1.8 1/40 to about half that. He was going to give up shooting when I loaned him my monopod. He's a convert, he now has a monopod on his shopping list.
