Very interesting. Are there no really independent review sites? Peter Youthinks? I wish it were common knowledge that sites like DPReview are partly owned (or at least, in some cases, heavily sponsored by) Canon. Alas, more and more people are duped every day by such sites. John Celio --

I've found few sites or magazines that did not exhibit a great amount of a priori bias. Whether Canon/Nikon are funding them or otherwise have a nudge-nudge-wink-wink relationship with them is irrelevant to me. The fact is that they sometimes present good data and then draw absurd

Hi folks, I've been thinking about buying a small pocket digital camera for those situations when a DSLR is too inconvenient. As old pentaxian (ME-sup, LX, Pz-1p, *istD) I would of course rather go for a Pentax, but the reviews (dpreview, imaging-resource, steves digocams, etc) mostly grade Pentax

Peter, I think some of it is in the user adjustable sharpening/contrast. I like the Optio S4 and just bought an SV for $261 with a $50 rebate yet to come. Go for it. Bob S. On 8/23/05, Peter Smekal [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi folks, I've been thinking about buying a small pocket digital camera

I like much the Optio MX (and Optio MX4, which is the same but 4MP instead of 3MP). Its only real problem is shutter lag, lkike about any digital PS :(. But otherwise I like it. Very useful to take 640x480 videos time to time (with kids being in the perfect example). 2005/8/23, Peter Smekal

I like much the Optio MX (and Optio MX4, which is the same but 4MP instead of 3MP). Its only real problem is shutter lag, lkike about any digital PS :(. Some are a bit better. I remember that the Pentax S5i was among the best on that aspect. If focus is done first, lag becomes very short.

The S5z seems almost identical to the S5i other than having a larger LCD and lacking the optical finder, based on the DPReview side-by- side comparison. It's slightly thicker too. Godfrey
