Crazy idea:
Couple the IS optical train with a negative element (all in body) and then
couldn't you put a full-frame image on a non-full frame image sensor?

I see that the Pentax patent is similar to Nikon's implementation of the IS
feature. This means that it should work at approximately one stop slower
shutter speed than Canon's IS - about three stop worth is gained as opposed
to Canon's two.

Here's another cool patent that was awarded today. It's US Patent Number
6,374,048 for Device for correcting a tremble of a focused image. The
drawings for this one are also very detailed, indicating that they actually
built it
