The phrase could be 'Tak Sharp.'
I've never seen a bad sample, so you had other problems.

My 1.7 is my sharpest lens. I have an M 1.4 that is close, but not
quite as sharp. At F8 its pretty hard to tell the difference between
them. The bokeh on the 1.4 is of course much better though.

I'd say that the F 50mm f/1.7 is as good as the FA 50mm f/1.7 and maybe just
a little bit better, if you can believe some lens testers, like Photodo for
one.
How much is your friend asking for it?

Just be sure to check the smoothness of the aperture ring.

It is a really good lens. I was very lucky and I paid $40 dollars for
mine (secondhand, of course). It is in what I'd say excellent+
condition.
But the price for this lens would be in the region of $100 or a bit
more, if it is near mint.
