Premise is a given, but precise factors are almost certainly subjective
grabs.

This in response to a question having to do with buying lenses for a
Nikon D50.

SB: "The limiting factor, given that the lens is well corrected for
distortion, is really the resolution of the sensor. Generally until you
get into pricier digital SLR's with 12 or more megapixel resolution,
the advantage of a professional-grade lens will not be markedly
realized".

"Markedly" being their safety factor.

Not any different than past claims that some lenses could out resolve
some films. 
It's the assigning of a 12 meg. barrier that I find interesting.
