You're thinking of the ME Super :-) The ME doesn't support even that
extremely basic level of flash automation.

Use the 100x setting. The sensor is in the prism and will be blocked by
the mirror during exposure.

It doesn't have anything to do with TTL flash or not -- the ME Super, I
think, was the first Pentax to automatically go to the synch speed when
a dedicated Pentax flash charged up. Unless the Vivitar is a model that
is dedicated for the Pentax, I think any Pentax camera using it would

you can use the hot shoe or the thingy :-)
The Pentax ME does not support TTL Flash, set the Flash to an auto range
depending on the distance you will use, read the aperture setting on the
flash scale for the given distance and set that aperture on the Pentax too.
Set the Pentax to the 100x
