On a high school trip to New Orleans, some friends and I were busy
seeing who could stay awake the longest (yes, I know, but it was high
school), so we were at a 24-hour Denny's across the road from our hotel,
drinking coffee in the middle of the night when we were approached by a
group of Texans who had been at the next table and overheard us talking
and deduced that we were Canadians. Since they were on a trip with
their French club ("We were gonna go to Kweeebek but Lord its just too
cold"), they demanded to hear our French. We indulged them, and they
told us, astoundedly, "Y'all sound lahk the peey-pul on thuh taypes!"

We hung out for a while, and finally we started asking to hear THEIR
French. Let me tell you, if you have not heard a Texan speak French,
you're missing one of life's greatest treasures. I will carry the
sounds of "Pahhr-lay voooow frahn-saeeyyy" in my heart until I die.
