Many of the older Canon/Nikon shooters in the nature photography group I'm involved with have switched to Four Thirds (micro four thirds?) mirrorless systems. A 150-400 lens in that system apparently has an 35mm equivalent of 300-800mm ... and costs slightly less than Canon/Nikon big glass.

i am moving in the opposite direction (perhaps because i am rather youngish at 59?). i've just sold my k3ii + sigma 150-500 (combined, 2.7kg) and got myself a nikon d500 + nikkor 200-500/5.6 (3.2 kg). i hope i survive. in case i don't, i do have the k5iis and the HD 55-300 as a backup :) ~subash

Some actual measurements: My K-5, without lens or strap, weighs 0.8 kg = 1.76 lb. My 17-70 lens weighs 0.51 kg = 1.12 lb. So, my usual walking-around setup is 1.3 kg = 2.86 lb. Until two or three years ago, my walking-around bag had the K-5, 17-70, 50-200, and 10-17 fisheye. That’s too much

According to Sony the DSC-RX10 weights 1.095g (2lb 5oz). A K-5 weighs 750g (1lb 10.5oz), so even with a 50mm/f1.4 it weighs slightly less than the Sony. A K-5 with the 60-250 zoom does weigh just about twice what that Sony weighs. The Sony, though, has a sensor even smaller than a 4/3 sensor
