Neither. Empty eggs are difficult to work with properly. They crack easily, and they float instead of sinking in the dye. So the eggs uses are always still full, and fresh, uncooked eggs work best. The dyes that are used are not food coloring dyes, and are not safe for use on eggs to be eaten,
