thanks Alan. it is commonly seen flying overhead but this is the first
time i am photographing it "perched".

i am glad too because you see it more often flying overhead and rarely
find it sitting on the ground or perched. about the cropping, that
photo was already extremely cropped, i am wary of cropping it further
though i was aware thatt the geometry doesn't quite work.

I'd suggest, though , that since his expression is so strong you crop
the photo on the right quite tightly around his face.. since you haven't
included
his whole body - the geometry there doesn
it is a he. the she is more drab-looking.
i don't think it hada prey on the ground. because immediately after
this was shot it flew off...
