Taken yesterday in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco. I wouldn't mind
your ideas about cropping. I have presented one possible crop and
also the original full frame.
Pentax K10D, A 70-210/4 @ 210mm, handheld
ISO 800, 1/125 sec @ f/4.5, SR on

I see a tighter vertical crop, running from slightly left of the birds tail
to down the center of the yellow growth in the background.

I like the crop, but I'd suggest going even further and taking out the
rest of the flower on the right, making the frame more in the portrait
orientation. (similar to the second crop per Shel's suggestion, but
leaving in the top of the background flower.)
Nice photo & cute bird.

Nice Bruce. Your crop works for me. Possible a very small amount tighter on
the left side to get rid of the little blurred background item towards the
bottom.

Oh the birdy is damn near perfect... II like the geometry but the bloom
in the back isn't blurred enough
not to be distracting... this is a case where edge to edge sharp would
work too.
but you really captured the hummers colors and that is sooo tough!

Thanks Bob. How much you can crop is partly dependent on the final
medium and size.

How about flipping it horizontally?
I'm still distracted by the brilliant yellow in the background
just a thought - the bird looks great though...

I know what you mean about the colors. It was really strange to be
looking through the finder and as the bird would turn it's head, the
colors would jump out and then go dark. Almost like a little
lighthouse. Seems that they only reflect the bright colors from a
certain angle.
