Yes, they do work well together. They form a stronger image than by
themselves. Of the two, I think the right one is the stronger stand alone
shot. Nicely seen.

detached from the scenes behind him, and I get the impression he is
hurrying to get out of there as quickly as possible.

That is exactly what made the pair work for me. I think of the Harry Potter
movies where people move back and forth between pictures. The little boy seems
like he is ready to jump to the other picture. So the two work together. The
left one doesn't work so well stand alone. The right one
As you say - great together but individually strong. I like the contrast
of the disinterested boy vs the attentive adults, also the momentary
impression that the boy is running from the left image to the right...

There is something about having a cataract that makes me rather less
appreciative of these than sharper images...
(Yeah, I had one fixed, but my left eye is now due and if I close my
right eye everything looks like pin-hol camera photos. :-)
