I agree about the runner on the right but at the speed those
guys were running I didn't have *any* choices! Just point, pan
and hold the shutter button down. ("Help me robocamera, help
me!") I had perhaps three seconds in which to get a decent
photo. I got several duds and this shot.

I wasn't even aware of these people when taking the picture, I
just discovered I liked them afterwards.

Hand held, hence the 800 speed film. Personally, though, I like
the shutter speed as it seems to me a good compromise: the
runners are sharp but not totally frozen and there's a little
blurring of the spectators due to the panning. I'm going to be
back there this year as my S.O. is running Boston (see
http://www.robertstech.com/dfmc) and I think I'll get a monopod
for the occasion.

This was one of my first attempts at sports photography and it's
definitely a different gig for me. We'll see what I can come up
with this year.
