There was a copy of what was supposed top be the 1.1 firmware on http://www.pentaxiste.org/article.php3?id_article=36
The web page has now been amended because they were actually supplied with 1.0 firmware, and are still waiting for 1.1. However, someone tried it out here: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1028&message=6420842 "Knowing that I can always select "No" if I don't feel safe to, I downloaded the file from the French site, copied the firmware .bin file to the root directory of the CF card. Turning on the camera while holding down the Menu button, the *ist D boots up into the firmware update screen. However, the confirmation screen shows something like this: Current version : 1.00 Update version: 1.00 Obviously I chose "No" at this point. :)" At least this demonstrates that we should be able to do it, and that it is likely Pentax will make the updates available for us when they are available. The guy who posted this is a lurker here, and has sent me a copy which seems useful to keep as a backup in case some problem comes out of the real 1.1 upgrade - so that I can go back to 1.0.
