One of my plastic Pentax rectangular hoods had the same issue. It just popped out by all itself no matter how many times I pushed it back. Eventually I glued it carefully with epoxy cement and works fine since. I thought they should design some better clips since those plastic hoods are rather expensive.

I just thought I'd share this tip, but just a bit of background. I have a M 85 - M 100 clip on lens hood that I've been using on my
F 70-210 zoom, it worked rather well except that the clips were made out of mouse hair. I was using it on a small ramble through
the woods and brushed up against a branch and the damned hood popped off the lens. No problem I retrieved it and.... NO F******
CLIPS!!!

When this happens I came up with a simple solution. Find a junk 49mm filter with good threads. Remove the Glass. Put a bead of a good
quality glue around the inside of the on the side that would attach to the lens, (IF IT HAD ANY CLIPS), I used a rubberized bonding compound
sold under the name "Goop". Pop the filter ring into the opening with the threads out, (that part is important). Let it set for the recommended time.

Now you have a nice screw in lens hood.
