I use DNG, mainly because I use ACR/ PSCS 1 as my RAW converter, and
it's not compatible with K10D PEF. If I switch to Lightroom, which
Godders input has tempted me to do, I would probably shoot PEF.

I shoot pef coz i fit more shots on a card but conv to dng and retain
dng files... Also note that the K10D is slightly faster when saving
DNG files as opposed to PEFs so you get a slightly faster frame rate
with DNG... especially if you shoot long bursts and fill the buffer.

On
PEF, it takes less space on the card.
That said I import everything in LR and converts them to DNG.

PEF to fit more on the card and convert to compressed DNG automagically
while importing to the computer.

DNG for convenience so I never get confused with PEF files produced by
my *istD.

PEF - to save space on cards while shooting.
My recent testing showed, however, that if you need that little extra
for fast bursts of 4-10 sequence shots, it's better to set DNG format.

They need lesser space and I can convert them to DNG if/when I'll find a
good reason (not yet), while I cannot do the other way round.

I shoot DNG.
I bought the K10D before any 3rd-party converters were available, so
DNG was the only choice.
I like the convenience of embedded xmp files in the DNG format, so I
archive everything as DNG. Since I have to convert to compressed DNG
(to save space), shooting DNG doesn't give me a si

DNG. It makes it easier for us at the studio, which is still on CS.
