Hi Larry
As a piece of art in it self, I would crop it to avoid the half subjects.
It's quite nice.
As a photograph showing the objects to whoever intersted in things like
this, I'd choose a different lighting, to avoid the dominating shadows.

Oh good! It wasn't just my monitor! Now I can agree with Alan.
The dark background also varies in tone or lightness from the lighter
bottom left (if I recall correctly) to top right, which is darker.
It appears that was because it was (a guess) side lighted from a window
or ?.

I like the composition, framing and subject matter. But I don't like
the light. It's most intense in the lower left and falls off very
steeply. I do like the fact that the light is very directional because
it creates interesting shadows, but I wish it came more from above left
and was more
The subject matter would be very appealing in certain circles Pony play
anyone?
Seriously though, I don't like the lighting, but the composition is good.
Like others have said, I'd like to see a better-lit color version.

Hi, Larry,
I fall into the it's too dark camp.
I don't find the composition bad, but OTOH, it doesn't do a great deal for
me. As Paul (and maybe others) said, the light fall off is bothersome.
As has already been said, I wonder if it might work better in colour with
better (more consistant)
Thanks to all who have commented on my image of the horse bits. I was
undecided about this image in the first place. You have confirmed my initial
feeling. It's just so-so and that's OK. What it did was to get me to look
at lighting and composistion and color. This is a good thing as Martha would
On my monitor, which I've attempted to calibrate to my printer, it's a
bit dark. It makes an interesting pattern.

One thing this picture tells us is that some Cowboys were cruel to their
horses. Some of those bits are really nasty. Why no colour?
