There were two versions of the non-EDIF 300 F4. As far as
I can tell they are identical optics, different cosmetics.
FWIW, I got a mint older one (SMCT) for 600.00 on ebay
and its a dandy. For the extreme difference in cost of the
EDIF version, I dont think its worth it for the close
focussing especially when there are easy workarounds if/
when those situations come up. BUT if your main interest
and work will be a lot of portriats, it MIGHT be worth it.
Dont forget you can buy a closeup lens that mounts on the
front if you dont want to dismount the lens to insert
a tube.
