My D200 is getting better with age. It was giving 200 a charge, now

And? Anyway the Pentax grip does not come with a battery AFAIK as it
does not need one anyway.

I interpret this statement "The PENTAX battery grip D-BG2 offers the
necessary power to ensure an optimal performance of the K10D camera

You surely must be joking Shel. Of all people, I'd assume you know
that good street photographers walk on the shadow side of the
street--how would this work then?

Revue did such a camera. You can find some on Ebay.
I don't think a solar panel would provide any high enough current even
to charge the battery a bit when idle.
A stupid gsm (like Nokia 3310) takes hours to charge on solar panel.
Imagine a dslr...

There's already such a camera in K mount. Ricoh made a KR-10 with a
solar panel back in the 80's.
Solar power simply doesn't have enough energy density to power a modern
camera from cells on the camera or the person.
Now a charging station on a car or man-portable should be doable, and
likely
Fer goodness sakes, when will camera makers start taking advantage of solar
power. Batteries are so much trouble. Just think, a small solar panel
attached to a headband or special "photo cap" (brim turned rearward by
design) and plugged into the camera body. Perfect for many shooting
situations.
Use an AC adapter, then you'll never run out of battery power...

When I pre-ordered my K10, the grip was very r
Buy the vertical grip and you're up to 1000 frames, probably quite a
few more without flash. And why would you want to hold the shutter
button down for that long anyway?

Thanks for the replies. I was really just asking whether the battery
was disappointing. As I rarely use flash or do continuous shooting,
there shouldn't be too big a difference.
Now I'll have to think of another reason I can't afford it!
Yours, counting the pennies till I can afford it

500 shots following CIPA recommandation IE about half the shots with flash !

The statement in the specs is 3fps for JPEG images until the SD card
is full. The 500 exposure charge life is presuming approximately 50%
flash usage. If my experience with other such ratings is any guide,
this will be 1000-1200 exposures with no flash. I average 1100-1200
exposures per set
