I've tentatively decided to bu this lens as it is the perfect length and
speed for shooting Hockey games from my preferred vantage point at the ice
in Anaheim, CA (Ducks). Any comments regarding this lens would be greatly
appreciated.

Hello Bob,
I had one for quite some time and really liked it. I found that it
was quite good to focus with manually because the 'throw' was
relatively short, but smoothly damped. I found the bokeh odd
sometimes, but overall it was a great lens. If circumstances were
right, I would buy it again,
It's big, it's heavy, it's fast, it has a great reputation, I want one.

and with the smaller sensor of the DSLRs it's getting a fair bit more use,
