FWIW, only the A MF lenses will allow trap focus with the MZ-S.

If you don't want the trap focus feature enabled when shooting MF lenses,
just flip the AF/MF switch to MF. The trap focus feature is always
disabled in that manner.

Shel,
Let me hop on to this to correct my last post.
Trap focus will work on manual focus lenses other than the A, EXCEPT,
when using high speed sync with the AF360FGZ. I learned this while
trying to trap Humming birds with an A* 300mm after installing a
non-A permitting extension ring.
With the K
Nope.
Just tried with an SMC-K 1.4/50 on my MZ-S, works perfectly.
AFAIK, trap focus works the same way on the digital bodies.

I seem to have forgotten how trap focus works on the istDS. Can someone
refresh my memory?

Put camera in AF mode.
Put on a manual focus lens.
Turn to out of focus position.
Hold down on the shutter release.
(Shudder for some.)
Then place subject in focus and it will fire when the subject is in focus.

With a manual focus lens, set a focus distance and flip the AF/MF
switch to AF. Hold the shutter release button fully depressed. When
the AF
OK, that's what I thought, but the camera fires even when there's nothing
in focus. Is there a menu item that has to be set?

You shouldn't have to set a menu item. And if it's set on autofocus, it
shouldn't fire until something is in focus. You would want to use
selective focus. If it's on multipoint, it will find something in focus
other than the subject.

Shel, you probably have the AF/MF switch set to MF.

Trap focus only works with manual focus lenses and only when the AF/
MF switch is on AF. Because it only works with manual focus lenses,
only the center focus sensor is active regardless of which focusing
mode you've got the camera set to.
Shel, you probably
in some scenes where it usually didn't do that.
