Hi All, After reading all the posts on the istD I decided that I needed more >=A lenses for future compatibility, so I just bought a used SMC F 70-210 4-5.6. I got it mostly based on the glowing reviews on Alex's Pentax lens review (and it was cheap!) Anyone have any feedback on what they like/don'

Good move. I snagged one on Ebay for about $60 in almost mint condition. They go for about $180 at KEH in really good condition. Built like a tank. Fast AF on PZ1p. Optically superb. Couple it with an SMC F 28-80 f3.5-4.5 and you've got an amazing bit of AF kit. Two shortcomings: 1) Sloppy MF fe

It's a great lens & it has an ED glass element(s). It's super sharp (wide open too), with good contrast and colour. It's fairly well-built, and the lens barrel is metal. Mine hasn't had any mechanical problems. Optical quality is much better than the SMC-A 70-210mm f4 (which I also own). The down

I really like my F 70-210 -- it feels a bit better constructed than most of the FA lenses and it does perform very well. Very nice handling on a PZ-1/PZ-1p. I haven't tried it on smaller bodies. The FA lenses have the encoded MTF data (tells PZ and later cameras the lens' optimal quality apertu

Boris, The Soft lenses are unique in that they aren't open aperture viewing until you dial to the end of the soft effect (about f8). This gives you the ability to see the softening effect and to be able to focus well by stopping down. They function properly on *ist and *ist D. Once you get the l

Boris, Sorry to dissapoint, but this lens lacks an "A" position. The logic in its omission is that the soft effect changes with aperture so Pentax thought it undesirable to use program or Tv mode. The lens's contemporary camera bodies could do Av or metered manual without the "A" setting, and bo
