Well - that´s how it was and is. The PZ-1 and PZ-1p were not so good sellers that 
Pentax decided to try another approach. PZ-1p owners like it and it is a good camera. 
No spitting here but how many new PZ-1p type cameras Pentax would have been able to 
sell to current PZ-1p owners? On the other hand the MZ line seems to be selling well.
The MZ-S is an expensive niche product so let´s hope it finds its niche. Its controls 
are quite logical for a MZ-5n user - you do not need the manual except to set the 
Pentax functions and it is not easy to think any other way for those. IMHO the only 
thing wrong with the MZ-S is the price - I did sell my MZ-5n AND my LX to finance it. 
If I had had a PZ-1 I might have stayed with it happily ever after - but no turnover 
for Pentax.
