i answered assuming the discussion was about bona fide walking sticks that could be used as a monopod but now realize the discussion has bent the other direction -- monopods that might also be used as walking sticks; as a hiker with three pairs of walking sticks (and who has hefted several monopods, mostly in stores) i'd have to say all true monopods are much too stiff, and most are much heavier, than a good walking stick

coincidentally to this discussion, i had recently concluded that a shoulder condition is making me less competent at handholding my camera, so had i played a game of craigslist tag resulting in the purchase of a Slik EZ Pod:

this is definitely a lower-end unit -- won't get no respect from the pros, but we're shooting Pentax after all ... nonetheless it's surprisingly well-made, sturdy and flexible for the price (i pad $25); the spring-loaded feature makes height adjustment much easier than fiddling with the overall extension, and has an added benefit -- i can hook the foot of the collapsed monopod in my belt a little left of center, put the strap around my right shoulder, then use the trigger to adjust the height to make a very effective body brace

among the drawbacks -- the QR plate fits nothing else, and i'm a little concerned that it resembles a rifle
