Why do you need to use the aperture ring with an FA lens mounted on a Z1p?
Set the lens to A and use the aperture dial on the body.
There are 3 reasons that I do that:
1) I use DOF preview frequently and the mechanical DOF preview of Z-1p
doesn't work when the lens is set to 'A'.

Ah, therein is one of my gripes on the Z-1p. To use DOF, which I
would want to do with a macro, the aperture ring must be used. The
ZX-5n and MZ-S both work as you'd like
