Hi Drew,
If all you need are an NS record and an A record, PowerDNS will work
just fine.
If you've already created your records, please post your config, how to
reproduce the problem, and any records you've already created. That way
we can query your nameservers and see what's what.

I notice that pdns is querying the database looking for NS records at the
subdomain level, which I did not expect.
I have only seen NS records exist at the domain level and that is how our
DNS server is set up.

Hello,
Is there any equivalent to the BIND Response Policy Zones (RPZ) feature for
PowerDNS Recursor? We've had some recent phishing attacks, and it'd be
nice to see if we can stop them before they start. Obviously mail
filtering plays a big role, but some sort of recursive DNS firewall would

Hi Fernando,
This is how wildcard DNS is supposed to behave. Only if there's no
label for your query will the wildcard entry be read.
In your case, yes, if there's a TXT record
test.example.org. TXT adsfasdfasdfasdfasdfasdfasdfasdfasdf
then a query of
test.example.org. A?
Forgot to cc the list on my response :-(

Hi Jay,
To be of help, I think we probably need some more information about your
setup--powerdns configuration, domain info, some sample dig ( dig
+trace) queries for both the forward and reverse records in question, etc.
Glad to help once there's more info.

Hi Luca,
If your server's set up as a master for xyz.com, then the notifies should
fail--your server has the correct data already. It won't hurt for your
master server to NOTIFY itself--it'll just ignore it.

We're running two powerdns recursor servers (called ns1 ns2) to serve
as our default on-campus resolvers. Last Thursday at 10:03:45, both
resolvers simultaneously ceased to answer DNS queries, taking out name
resolution for most of our campus. A third server (ns3), which

Looks like the solution here is to edit the initscript. Is that what
