While visiting down south last week, I browsed MISSOURI: a
bicentennial history, by Paul C Nagel (W W Norton, 1977--one
of the state books that appeared during celebration of the
200th anniversary of the US Declaration of Independence).

I was also struck by that article. Also by the RIDICULOUS stuff being
peddled by Robert Samuelson. IN Newsweek he even had the nerve to argue
that layoffs and downsizing and insecurity is mostly an issue of FEELING not
reality. Has anyone read his book? Seen his recent piece in Newsweek?
