May Pen-L thrive!!!
I am mostly a lurker, except when I need some help with

Louis, I wish that you are correct, but I don't think so. My own research on
this subject subjects to me that Marx was naively optimistic about the ability
to exploit nature at the time of the Manifesto. The U.S. Civil War, which cut

With the demise of the Marxism lists on Spoons, Lou stepped up to fill a

lists to engage a wider audience.

Pen-l'ers,
Speaking strictly as one among many, I don't want to see pen-l go down the
tubes, but nor do I want it to become a more "formal" discussion group w/
book reviews, long manuscripts that would otherwise be published in journals,
and so on. Nor do I want it to revert to what it seemed to
I like Thad's idea about a series of book reviews. I think that we do not
need an editor at this point. Let us just see what falls into the hopper.
Also, I appreciate the new headers in our postings. Several people
dropped off the list because of the lack of an identifier for the source.

I think pen-L should weather the storm and continue. It is different in
content and tone than the other lists, and to be blunt, more useful for my
ongoing research purposes. It appears that what is needed though is for

I apologize for making insulting remarks about Louis

Michael,
I agree with Jim Devine that pen-l serves a different purpose and should be
retained. The market, after all, is a terribly biased mechanism as we
should all know, and I would not favor letting it determine very much.
