A footnote to the discussion on male upper-body strength, etc. One form of body-strength that is usually left out of the discussion is the muscular force exerted by women in childbirth. I don't have numbers, but suspect that the power of a late-stage contraction of the uterine muscles would far exceed what either men or women can do with the outward-oriented muscles. The very definition of physical strength has been biased against women. None of this counters Jim's point that modern technology, not to speak of moral possibilities, makes considerations of body strength in general obsolete. o/^^^^^) o ! / / /^^) /\ /^^! /^^) o(_____/_(_ /(/ \/ !_(_ /!_ David Laibman [EMAIL PROTECTED] Professor Editor, Science & Society Department of Economics John Jay College, Rm. 4331 Brooklyn College 445 West 59th Street Brooklyn, 11210 New York, NY 10019 USA Voice/FAX: 212/246-4932 718/951-5219; -5317 [EMAIL PROTECTED] FAX: 718/951-4867 Home: Executive Committee/Delegate 50 Plaza Street E., #2C Professional Staff Congress Brooklyn, NY 11238 AFT Local 2334 Voice: 718/789-9565 FAX: 718/783-7347
